IWD Intelligent Electronic Drains

The Atlas Copco IWD 105 (8102048012) is an intelligent zero-loss condensate drain for compressed air systems, supplied here in the 115 V version. Condensate is the liquid water that separates out as compressed air cools inside a receiver, dryer, or filter, and it has to be removed so it cannot pass downstream and damage tools, piping, or product. This electronic drain collects that liquid and discharges it automatically, so clearing it is no longer a manual task in your maintenance routine.
What makes it a zero-loss drain is that it opens only when the collected liquid reaches a set level, then closes again before any compressed air can follow it out. Timer-based drains work on a different principle, opening on a fixed clock cycle and venting some live air each time; the IWD releases condensate and almost nothing else, so no compressed air escapes as the receiver empties. Two level sensors and a float govern the valve, an automatic cleaning cycle helps prevent the clogging that leads to premature failure, a reinforced dirt screen filter (a fine strainer) catches debris, and an alarm signals if the valve fails to operate correctly.
Size the drain to the equipment it serves rather than to the pipe it bolts onto. This unit is rated for compressor output up to 222 cfm (105 l/s) and dryer capacity up to 445 cfm (210 l/s), measured at reference conditions of 68 °F (20 °C) ambient and 60% relative humidity; warmer or more humid air produces more condensate and lowers the effective capacity. Maximum working pressure is 232 psi (16 bar). Because it uses a hard-coated aluminum receiver, it is suitable for both oil-lubricated and oil-free installations.
Installation is straightforward. The inlet connection revolves so the drain can be fitted for either vertical or horizontal mounting depending on the space you have, and it is designed to plug and play with no additional electrical work beyond its own supply. This variant is built for 115 V, so check that it matches the voltage at your installation before ordering. It is a genuine Atlas Copco unit, so the receiver coating, the level sensing and the alarm are all to the original IWD specification.
Sizing is the part worth a second opinion. Send us the free air delivery of the compressor this drain will serve, or the rated flow of the dryer if that is where it will sit, along with how warm and humid the compressor room actually gets, and we will tell you whether the 222 cfm (105 l/s) and 445 cfm (210 l/s) figures leave you real margin or whether a larger unit in the IWD range suits you better.
