The Atlas Copco WSD 75+ cyclone water separator (8102374302) removes bulk liquid water from a compressed air line, and it is a genuine Atlas Copco air-treatment part built to the original specification. When compressed air cools, the moisture it was carrying turns into liquid water, known as condensate, which then collects in your pipework and air receiver. Left in the system it causes corrosion, carries oil and dirt downstream, and shortens the life of tools, valves and other equipment. This water separator takes that free water out at the point where it forms.
It works by spinning the incoming air so that the heavier water droplets are flung outward against the chamber wall, where they run down and gather at the bottom to be drained away, leaving much drier air to carry on through the system. Because the separation is done by the swirl of the air itself, there are no moving parts to wear out, so the unit is effectively maintenance-free. It comes with both an automatic and a manual drain, and the automatic drain uses liquid level sensors to release condensate only once it has built up, rather than bleeding air continuously, so you are not throwing away compressed air you have paid to produce.
Separation efficiency is high, at 96.6 per cent total mass efficiency, while the pressure drop across the unit is only 0.06 bar (about 0.9 psi), so very little working pressure is lost in the process. The separator is rated for a nominal flow of 75 l/s and suits systems in the 26 to 75 l/s range (55 to 159 cfm), with a G 1 inch flanged connection and a 1 inch compressed air outlet. It is built for a maximum working pressure of 16 bar(g) (232 psi) and for inlet air temperatures from 1°C upwards, with reference performance quoted at 7 bar(g) and 20°C.
It is supplied as standard with our aftercoolers, the heat exchangers that cool compressed air immediately after it leaves the compressor, but it does not have to sit there and can be installed at any point in your air net where free water is a problem, such as ahead of a dryer or before a critical piece of equipment.
Sizing starts with flow, so work from the air actually passing the point where you intend to fit it rather than from the compressor nameplate, and check that your line pressure sits inside the rated window too. It is also worth settling in advance where the separated water will go, because both the automatic and the manual drain need a route to a suitable collection or disposal point. Send us the flow, the pressure and the pipework at that position and we will confirm whether the WSD 75+ is the right size for the duty before you order.
